A Case of Septicemia due to Yersinia pseudotuberculosis serovar O5




Abstract
Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is one of common animal pathogens, but very rarely in men. However, increased human, infections have been reported recently, It is known to cause mesenteric lymphadenitis in children, septicemia, enteritis, and
erythema
nodosum, Especially, septicemic patient due to this organism is often fatal when the patient is elderly and has underlying liver diseases. The authors isolated this organism from the blood specimen of a 41-year-old man with liver cirrhosis. The
patient
showed high fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The isolate was identified as Y. pseudotuberculosis by conventional method, API 20E kit and Vitek system. The patient recovered after receiving cephradine and cephapirin therapy.
